The idea of starting our own bike online shop was born in London in 2010. Back then, one of our founders was living there. Although public transport was good – and a little expensive– London is a city where traffic jams are easy to happen. That’s why many Londoners, in 2010 and now, move around on a bike, in order to save money and time.
At the beginning of the decade, a kind of bicycle was starting to become more and more popular at the UK capital – fixie or single-speed bikes. Economic, very simple, without gears or brakes. This means very little maintenance, as brake pads don’t have to be removed, or calipers adjusted. They are also light bikes, can be easily carried upstairs to be kept at home, and endure the everyday challenges the city has to offer, including blows.
Back at Barcelona, we wanted to replicate what we had seen in London, and started working on a project to sell fixie bikes online. No one was selling that kind of bike online, so we took the bull by the horns by buying our 30 first bikes and selling them on a pretty basic website. The results were amazing, and they were sold out in a relatively short time. So we decided to create a more professional website, with an attractive layout. Our catalogue started to grow and the company got bigger and bigger.
That’s how Santafixie was born, in 2011. The first online shop specialised on bicycles, components and urban cycling accessories.
A mission, a vision and some values
At one of our first meetings, focused on defining our shop’s style and aims, and also looking for a name, we listed out the benefits of bikes as an urban means of transport. Urban bikes are green, as you don’t pollute while riding; they’re cheap, when compared with public transport fares, motorcycles or cars; keeps you in shape; gains you new friends at cycling events, and is easy to repair if any component is damaged. In short, urban bikes are all-good, quite like saints. Joining the Spanish Santa and the fixie bikes we were going to sell, the brand’s name was born – Santafixie.
Bikes and cities are our passions. We want to encourage people to use the bike as a means of transport, for it to be the token, the compass that goes with you everywhere around the city, while you explore new areas, with the main aim of reducing pollution caused by cars or public transport.
Thanks for the trust we’ve created, we currently sell our bikes in more than 50 countries, to more than 100.000 customers.
Our products are aimed mainly to urban cycling. We sell a wide range of accessories, components, city bikes fixies and singlespeed bikes so that everyone can move around by bike and equip themselves safely and comfortably.
Thanks to the experience acquired over the years, to our clients’ feedback and to long hours spent debating how to create a good-quality product at a very competitive price, in 2017 we created the prototype of our own-brand bike, the Santafixie Raval. The name comes from an iconic neighbourhood in Barcelona. A unique, picturesque district with narrow streets, people from all over the world, ideal to move around by bike and also the place where we would gather and discuss how our product would be.
So well was our Raval bike received, that we took a step forward and launched our second model, the Born bike. A bike with a steel frameset and a classic look, whose name comes from yet another unique Barcelona district. One of the city’s historic neighborhoods, connecting its heart with the old harbour, whose small and narrow streets are renowned for their livelihood and wildness.
Apart from designing, manufacturing and selling bicycles, components and accessories for cyclists, we also like modern urban clothing – pieces that speak to a different, modern audience. Taking this scope into account, you’ll find a great variety of Santafixie cycling clothing at our store, so that you can also feel special while off the bike.
We think that enjoying both our own-brand products and other-brand ones must not be a luxury at the reach of a few. That’s why you can enjoy a lot of offers and discounts on Santafixie products but also other brands such as Chrome Industries, Cinelli, Pit Viper, Supacaz...
Our headquarter is at the outskirts of Barcelona. There, in the same building, are our office, warehouse and workshop. Our mechanics build every bike and wheel by hand.
