Shimano: the innovation leader in the cycling industry
A cycling success story
Shimano's history dates back to 1921, when Shozaburo Shimano founded the company in Sakai, Japan. In its early years, the company focused on producing bicycle gears and related parts. Over time, Shimano became a world leader in the cycling industry, developing an extensive range of high-quality components and equipment.
A leader in drivetrain systems
One of Shimano's main goals is to develop the highest-quality drivetrain and gear-shifting systems. They have created a wide variety of groupsets for road and mountain bikes, offering precise gear changes, smooth pedalling and exceptional performance.
The Shimano Dura-Ace groupset, for example, is recognised as one of the best drivetrain systems for road bikes, used by elite professional riders. For mountain biking, Shimano offers the Shimano XTR groupset, designed to deliver quick response and efficient power transfer on the most demanding terrain.
Innovative solutions for urban cycling
Shimano has also developed innovative solutions for urban cycling, understanding the specific needs of this type of cyclist. They offer a range of components designed to improve mobility and comfort in urban environments.
For example, Shimano's internal gear hub systems are perfect for urban cycling, as they offer smooth shifting and, being internal, are protected against dirt and moisture, making them ideal for everyday commuting around the city.
