Almost 80 years separate the two photographs that illustrate the cover of the Book ¡Viva la Vuelta!. Mariano Cañardo was not (unfairly) the winner of the first edition of the Vuelta a España, back in 1935, but he was its main star and entertainer. Alberto Contador did come, see and win in the 2012 edition, and in what way. Between the two dates, the deeds and heroes accumulate, but also the hardships and humorous moments that have marked the long history of the great Spanish round. This book rescues them from oblivion for the first time, in a an act of justice that exhaustively, entertainingly and ironically illuminates the story of an already mythical event that is also a piece of the hectic and fascinating contemporary history of Spain.
